Vision Board

Did you know that writing down your goals in a visual format can help you achieve them?

It's true! And there's plenty of research to back it up. Psychology Today states that mental practices like visualization can improve motivation, confidence, and motor performance in athletes. Researchers found that visualization was almost as effective as physical practice. Neuroscientist Dr Tara Swart explains: "Looking at images on a vision board primes the brain to grasp opportunities that may otherwise gone unnoticed. That’s because the brain has a process called ‘value-tagging’ which imprints important things onto your subconscious and filters out unnecessary information.” quoted from an article on The Motivation Clinic.

Stay true to what matters to you the most.

We all have a vision for our lives, something we want to achieve and aspire to. Vision boards provide a powerful visual reminder of those dreams and values we hold dear. They help us stay focused on our dreams, values, and goals and serve as a visual reminder of all the wonderful things we are grateful for. Creating a vision board is the first step toward realizing our dreams. Remember, anything is possible if we believe in ourselves and remain committed to our vision.

To gain clarity on what really matters to you, it can be helpful to create a personal vision statement. I have created a free workbook that can guide you in creating your own Personal Vision Statement.

In the workbook, we start by quickly jotting down the first things that come to mind using a mind-map. From there, we delve a little deeper with some journal prompts. Establishing a word of the year is a great tool to stay focused on your goals and vision. To help you with this, I have included a reference with lots of inspiring words to use.

Now that we have a clear sense of our Personal Vision Statement, we can set SMART goals. If you have never set SMART goals before, don't worry! I explain what they are and how to set them in a brief introduction.

I have also included clip art that you can use on your vision board, as well as some beautiful affirmation postcards that you can print and use.

Creating a vision board is a simple and enjoyable process.

Embrace your creativity, and don't overthink it. It's time to get out old magazines and books and hunt through your old stashes to visualize your goal. You can also gather visual inspiration from Pinterest, Unsplash, and Instagram. Get creative and practice being fearless and playful. Print and cut your images on a larger poster board, and arrange your images and words on your board until your design looks pleasing. Glue down the images. Once your board is finished, hang it up somewhere you can see it often. To make your vision board work, put it somewhere you can see it throughout the day.

YOU CAN MAKE IT DIGITAL

If you want to create a digital vision board, you have various free online programs. One straightforward option is to create a board on Pinterest. However, if you want your digital vision board to look like a physical one, you can utilize an app like Canva. Canva is a free program that is accessible from your phone, tablet, or computer and is easy to use. You don't need any graphic design skills to use it. Import your inspiration photos and arrange them into a collage on a blank digital canvas. I created a free template you can use in Canva. I printed my vision board at a local print shop so I can hang it on my wall.
